Easier file uploading in Google Docs

In my earlier blogging experience with Google Docs, I met with much difficulties in uploading and getting any computer file-copy in it. (Read about them in my earlier posts in this blog). Then I had to make the file suitable in Google Docs, and even in Blogger's Post Editor, before publishing it as a blog post. Now Google Docs has made it simpler to convert it to its own format. How does it provide this conversion? Read on:
Click the tab, Upload .. and in the page of Upload File, use 'Drag and drop files here' box for transferring copy of your file. Check boxes for converting the file to Google Docs format. Click on 'Start upload' tab ---> You have now your file copy in a Google Docs file page! Save it and use it as you wish.

Get all your websites by Fur.ly

We frequently visit our favourite websites. Typing each time their URL and getting them is tedious. Even if we use Bookmarks (Favourites in Internet Explorer) it may become a tiring and repetitive work. If we are able to get these desired websites selectively and easily it will be more convenient, isn't it? A website provides us this convenience as its service. It is Fur.ly. If you enter in it URLs of all the websites you desire to follow each time, it will provide you with a shorter common URL with which you can get all the websites in your Internet browser. On default, the first website appears. In it you can either move on to the second one by clicking on the Next found on its menu bar and view all of them one by one, or select and view any one of them from the drop-down list of these URLs. You can also save this common URL in your Bookmarks or Favourites, and get all the websites in a single click. I find also such websites load faster with this common URL! Try here for shortening multiple URLs into one: Fur.ly!

Defragmenting speeds up computer

When a file is formed on a computer disk, it may not occupy on it in a contiguous order. Moreover files that are deleted produce in their place a gap on the disk between the existing adjacent files. These files are called the fragmented files. These files slow down the speed of processing by computer to read or write a file. So, they require Defragmentation. With this defragmentation process the contents of the disk are organized close together in contiguity. This makes faster the computer's processing of files apart from creating free space by compacting the files.
Defragment (in Windows XP OS):
Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defragmenter --> select Disk --> click Defragment tab.

Click and read more about Defragmentation here:

Trackback linkers and visitors!

Trackback is one of the Linkbacks. It is used by the author of the website to get notified whenever a visitor to his/her website links it to another website. This makes the author able to keep track on those who are all linking and referring to his/her articles. This trackback is thus used to increase the visitor's traffic also.

Removed links to restore traffic!

Recently, I was alerted by my friend that I shall get only a few visitors to my blog! He added that every Google Chrome using visitor is shown that my blog contains some malware. He advised me also to remove a 'third party widget' in the blog to get cleared off the malware. By using Google Chrome myself I viewed my blog and confirmed it: Good old Blogrolling.com, that is advised by all to incorporate link-rolls with it and increase the visitors' traffic, is now of offending nature! I removed all the widgets and links concerned with it, and now I do not get that warning anymore.
You can view here the explanation given by the offending website, that has announced its closure on 1st November 2010: RPC.Blogrolling

Make adamant picture shift!

While blogging, by default a picture is uploaded at the top in the Post Editor (of Blogger). To bring down the picture below the post you shall have to select it and drag it down below the text. But if you then want to change its position there, by dragging to the other positions (e.g. right or the left from the central position) it will go back and refuse to shift! To change its position here you shall have to try this: before uploading this picture, select the 'None' radio button. After uploading and bringing down the picture below the text, simply select the picture by a single click. Then click on the Align Left, Align Center or the Align Right icons found on the menu bar of the Post Editor as you desire. Now the picture would have shifted automatically to the desired position!

Tweet with a Tiny URL!

Nowadays here is an urgent need for communicating quickly. So, now we try to use newer methods like shortening a word itself (e.g. SMSing) or sending the website URL that conveys the whole message when clicked on (e.g. Tweeting). But if this URL itself is lengthy and exceeds 140 characters, is there any way to solve it? Yes, there are websites that shorten the URL submitted and allow it to be copied, to be pasted in tweeting page and published! All this service is free! You can try these websites: Tiny URL or Bitly

Tips for spacing in Blogger posts

In blog posting, bloggers experience certain hurdles in preparing the posts as desired. In Blogger (with old Post Editor), if you want to have a gap between the blog post's title and the first content photo, it will be hard to get it. Here is a way to get it: if the photo is at the centre position hold it with the Pointer and drag it diagonally down either to the left or the right side, to just the width of the photo and release the hold. Now the photo will occupy down a line's space! So, do not drag the photo vertically down, frantically: follow the tips that have been mentioned here.

Instant result while writing exam - Google Instant!

Everyday everybody searches in search engines spending much time. Now Google has realized and released a new feature in its search engine called Google Instant. This feature is said to save the searcher's time of about five seconds, by providing search results even before you complete typing the search word itself! It is done by its prediction of the most likely word for the partially typed word and instant production of results for that predicted word itself. The rest of the predicted letters for the word being typed is shown in light grey colour before you finish typing. You can also view the search results for each of the partially predicted word-parts (that are presented in the drop down list) by simply passing over and pointing the arrow on each of them! This Google Instant is compatible with Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer 8. Though it is restricted now to a certain geographical areas only, it is said that it will be soon extended to all other parts of the world.

Tips on Gmail attachments for you!

When we find a method, we use it, adapt to it and go on using it. But there are many other easier methods that have been developed recently. For example, take attachment of files in Gmail. It has now features that you may not know. Find them here:

1) You can drag files from Desktop to 'Compose Mail' page to upload!
2) You can select multiple files by multi-selecting them (holding Ctrl key and clicking on each file) to attach!
3) Gmail warns you if you have forgotten to attach a file with your mail.
4) You can view files (sent/received) directly by Google Docs Viewer. So, to view the files you need not download and save them to Desktop anymore.

Hacking mail account for Marketing!

Hacking email account is also done for purposes other than knowing the mail contents. Here is an example: it has been used for marketing electronic products! Yes, one person has hacked the password of my relatives email account. He/she has not only accessed the account's contents but also operated it and sent emails to all the Contacts in the Address Book (- including me!), as if he/she was my relative! But the contents of the mail endorsed an electronic product that he/she recently bought(!) at a cheaper rate! Here find one of those mail's contents:

I found out the hacking of the account when I contacted and inquired my relative by phone regarding the above mail's contents whether he bought the electronic item, and also about his sending such a mail. Spelling mistakes also pointed to the hacking. I reported about it to my relative and he immediately changed the password to a stronger one and protected his account.

Website faking Google.com!

I found out a fake website boasting itself as Google.com! That too appeared from Google accounts when I clicked on from one Google account to enter into another Google account. Yes, I tried to get Google Documents from GMail - signed in. Unlike any Google website, that website did not have the multicolored design present before its URL in the address box (of Mozilla Firefox). On clicking on the dull design, Mozilla Firefox alerted me as follows:
'The web site does not supply identity information. Your connection to this website is not encrypted.'
I proceeded then to click on its --> More information --> Page Info about the website --> Security tab --> View Cookies --> Cookies.
On the Cookies box I selected the Google.com cookies from the list displayed and removed them all together. Then I closed the fake web-site's page and signed out of GMail. After this, that fake website doesn't appear again and now I prefer to sign in directly into Google Documents account without entering it from GMail account.

Be alert to use your email account!

Nowadays email ids and email accounts have become essential for every individual as the name and address are essential for receiving snail mails (postal system). But unlike the snail mail one has to use it continuously and cannot leave it dormant. If you keep it idle, you may lose your email account with the email id and its contents! See here a sample email letter from a user friendly email provider, Sifymail, that alerted me about an account that lay idle:

Phising email sent by fraudsters urges and directs mail users, who are already familiar with their website, to enter their confidential personal particulars at a fake website (phising website) that resembles that of their familiar and genuine website! But on deeper reading of the phising-mail contents by each word, many spelling mistakes can be found out. This should alert you. If there is an URL do not click on it. Translate with Google Translate!

Though there is an international language, some nations in the world are self satisfied with their own language as sufficient for their communication needs. But in this age of globalization, international issues and problems like the pandemic diseases (such as Swine Flu) and other disputes have to be dealt with globally. All have to know and understand what is happening in other nations. Here comes an aid for that in the form of Google Translate. With this one foreign language can be converted into his/her own language and read to respond. Simply one can first select a language from the Select Language drop down list found on the Google Translate widget, that is present on the page of the website or blog. Within seconds the whole web page would have been now converted into the selected language! And then go and read the contents in the selected language. Yes, they do have - if you know about them and use them! All of them are of similar nature. Taking RSS (Really Simple Syndication) as an example, it is a websites syndication (publication). Here, after finding out an interesting and useful blog or website, the web surfer informs (subscribes) about his/her wish for automatically intimating him/her, whenever there is a publication of a new post at that blog. (This updated posts are the 'Feeds' from the blog).
OK. How to read then the recent posts from the selected blog? For this RSS feed readers like Google Reader, Bloglines or Mozilla Reader are used. These provide the reading person with a window in which the titles of new posts from the favorite blog are seen brought in. You can click on any title in it and read the full post.
You know now about the RSS. How to use RSS? First sign up for an RSS reader; then click on the RSS or Chicklets found on the favorite blog.and subscribe in it. Next, log in to the RSS feed reader and read the recent posts from the blog! After clicking on more such favorite blogs, you can see all their recent posts in your RSS reader without visiting all those blogs!
For those using Mozilla Firefox browser: Mozilla Reader activation is quite easy: Simply click on the orange chicklet found on the address bar of the browser and subscribe to use Live Bookmarks. Then you can read recent blog posts from the browser itself! On the Menu bar click on Bookmarks --> Bookmarks Toolbar --> Blog's name in the list --> Blog posts titles --> select a title to read.
Having read all these and applying it in use you can save both your valuable time and money.
