Difficulties arising out of closure of the mail service - Sifymail!

Previous year, in June, the Sifymail of Sify.com announced cessation of its service suddenly. It advised its users to enter users' other email address to get the mails redirected to it. I didn't get even a single mail redirected such. I had to retrieve all the pictures and documents in the attachments beforehand. And I had to inform all the friends and relatives about this closure, and request them to communicate with another email address of me. Moreover, I had entered my sifymail address as alternate mail address in many websites that I had to change. Recently, I found also that my membership in a blog directory is lost: I could not sign in in it as before! [It is Blogadda.com].

A sentiment lies behind this Sifymail service closure: it was my first ever email account created for my use in the year 2002 :(

Gmail's Sifymail or Sifymail's Gmail?

Email providers differ in rendering their services. For example, with Gmail account one can send a mail content to many persons with all their mail addresses inserted in 'To' box. But with Sifymail, that is now upgraded with the same Gmail's most of apps, such sending is a limited one. Since it is a free service, it is the mail provider's choice whether to allow such sending out many mails or not. But once such sending of mails is attempted - even by mistake, the Sifymail begins not only to block next such sending but also blocks further sending of any mail from the mail account! The account holder is banned for one day; now he can receive and read mails only! Is this a sort of punishment? If it is so, instead of this, such mail providers can consider to convert their 'service' into a paid service - as email is meant for both sending and receiving only.

Sifymail upgrades by Google Apps!

As I opened my Sifymail account, I was surprised to see a webpage titled as Google accounts welcoming to my new account! It contained Google Terms of Service. Why does Google enters into another email provider's page? Google started to provide its Google Apps on 'Software as a Service' (SaaS) mode in 2006. Sify Technologies Ltd. that ranks in the top of 30 Indian websites as per Alexa, started to use Google Apps' SaaS software delivery in 2008 under an agreement with Google Inc. Thus Sifymail was powered by Google Apps platform. It offers its services under its own brand name, leaving all the hard work of management to Google! Now, why there has been the need for accepting the Terms of Service here, I wondered. The reason is that the Google is now offering many 'Additional Services' in using the Sifymail account.

After clicking on the 'Accept' button, my Inbox opened, greeting with a mail from Sify announcing its upgrading with additional services of Google such as Bloggers, Google Groups, Google Maps, Google+ and others!

Be alert to use your email account!

Nowadays email ids and email accounts have become essential for every individual as the name and address are essential for receiving snail mails (postal system). But unlike the snail mail one has to use it continuously and cannot leave it dormant. If you keep it idle, you may lose your email account with the email id and its contents! See here a sample email letter from a user friendly email provider, Sifymail, that alerted me about an account that lay idle:
